Do I Really Need A Fire Safety Management Plan & Folder?
under the RRFSO 2005 all business premises are solely responsible for their own fire safety
management. This means that if any shortfalls arise or are observed after a fire or injury has occured, then
your insurance company may not payout or the fire services may take action against you as owners,
managers or responsible persons in-charge of the premises. The scope of fire management will primarily
depend on the type and size of your business operations. In general, we would advise that a fire risk
assessment be carried-out first, this may determine that your current fire safety management is acceptable
for your size of premises or it may determine that your operations require a more thorough management
procedure to be adopted, either way, a fire risk assessment will be able to answer this question accurately.
Will The Fire Safety Management Plan Make My Premises Safer?
YES. You will become much more knowledgeable in all areas fire safety related. It will give you and your
designated responsible person(s) (rp), the confidance to carry out suitable checks of equipment such as:
Fire extinguishers, fire alarm panels, fire call points, audible sounders, fire and safety signage, fire doors,
fire safety management procedures required and/ or implemented and much more…
What Should I Do Now?
We recommend that you have a Fire Risk Assessment carried out to determine the nature and scope of fire safety management planning required. If you have already had an assessment conducted then this
assessment should have advised you clearly on the levels of fire safety management required to either:
Level (1) (2) or (3) under British Standards (BS) 9999: 2008 requirements.
*NB. Levels (1) & (2) indicate detailed procedures are required.
